College Tours

My last days in Armenia were quite busy which is to be expected for any trip. At my internship we started the focus group discussions on Wednesday. observed and took notes for a mixed gender age 18 to 35 focus group. It was an interesting discussion to listen to because the differences in opinion between a younger person and an older person were notable. The group discussion gave me an insight on how citizens in Armenia perceive elections and it was like how elections go in Colombia for example.

On Thursday, the group went on two college tours, the first one was Yerevan State University. Lilit arranged for us to meet Mikael Hovhannisyan the Vice-rector for Development and Innovations. He gave us a talk about the university where he told us about the numerous programs that there are. After our talk with Mikael we got a tour of the library that I thought was structured in an interesting way. It was all divided by floors and sides. There were tables and chairs for people to do work on the balconies, which were mentioned to be one of the popular places for students to do work. When we exited the university, we walked by the stage that was being prepared for the graduation ceremony.

Our second tour was of American University of Armenia. For this tour Marie was our guide since she is a current student there. She showed us the library, classrooms, and computer labs. I thought the cafeteria for the university was very pretty, but I can imagine how busy it probably gets throughout the semester. The classrooms were set up pretty like how classes are set up in the states, the only difference is that there are more chairs there than there are at Stonehill. Both tours allowed me to see how students in Yerevan would live their day to day at college.
